Energy from Waste

As of mid-2025, in the UK, there are approximately 65 operational Energy from Waste (EfW) plants, with many more in the Planning and Construction phase. These EfW plants divert non-recyclable waste streams from landfills and can create energy in the form of electricity and heat as a result of the incineration process. All EfWs are regulated by Environmental Agencies and Local Authorities for their emissions to the air and water.

Proven Solution to Ensure Environmental Compliance

SOLVAir® S350 offers a proven and market-leading solution for acidic gas emissions from Energy from Waste plants, such as Sulphur Dioxide (SO2), Hydrogen Chloride (HCl) and Hydrogen Fluoride (HF). There are many successful reference cases where the SOLVAir® product range has allowed plants to successfully meet tightening emissions levels resulting from regulation changes or where SOLVAir® S350 has successfully replaced other abatement products, such as lime, to bring improved compliance performance as well as operational and environmental benefits.

There are many types of different Flue Gas Treatment processes that are either wet, semi-wet, dry or a combination of one or more of these, and they have developed over time as technology and sorbents have improved. The newer technologies are dry systems, and SOLVAir® S350 offers the user the opportunity to utilise the latest technologies to successfully control their acidic gas emissions.

Expected benefits by using SOLVAir® S350 for your Flue Gas Treatment process:
Check mark

Best in class pollutants removal performance, especially Sulphur Dioxide, and at a wider temperature window than lime-based options (150℃ – 230℃)

Check mark

Dry FGT systems based on simple dry sorbent injection technology (DSI), meaning the lowest CAPEX requirements and low ongoing maintenance costs

Check mark

Low Air Pollution Control residue yield

Check mark

Additional downstream heat offtake opportunities resulting from the potential to retain higher process gas temperatures

Check mark

Excellent pneumatic dosing characteristics

Check mark

pH of 8.0 – 8.5; safer to handle than higher pH products
